A Nonsense Poem for My Daughter

This week my third-grader, Liberty, has to recite a poem from memory in class. I started looking for a suitable poem, and decided, "what the heck, I'll just write one."

I have written the occasional poem over the years. A few have been love poems to my wife. Earlier in this blog is a poem I wrote on the occasion of my father's death in 2002. The poem I wrote last night is a nonsense poem; I call it Sleepyhead.

Sleepyhead

I like pretty days in May.

I like to watch the robins play.

I pretty like the robin’s watch,

I watch the pretty bobbins march.

I may march the watch today.

I may lurch while tigers play.

I may lunch on robins light.

I did not sleep so well last night.
